Burn one yourself
The format is simple enough to teach, which is the whole reason it exists. You sit down at the booth, pick a cured driftwood blank out of the tray, and burn your own design into it with a hot tip. Half an hour later you leave with a finished pendant on hemp lace.
The half hour
Pick your blank. Lake Erie driftwood, already cut, cured and sanded. Grain, knots and spalt lines vary — choose the one you want to answer.
Sketch in pencil. Pencil lines vanish under the tip or sand off after. Nothing is committed yet.
Burn it. I set the heat, show you how to hold the pen and how slowly to move. First strokes go on a scrap.
Finish. A wipe of beeswax from our own hives, threaded onto buckled hemp lace, adjustable.
What to expect
- Your first burn will wobble. Imperfection is the point — a shaky line is proof a hand made it.
- A burn cannot be undone. We plan around that rather than pretending otherwise.
- Seats run first come at the booth. Groups of more than three, email ahead.
- Ages ten and up with an adult sitting alongside. The tip is genuinely hot.
Bring your own idea
Rather burn something specific? Bring a shape — a mountain line, a dog's ear, a band's mark — and I will tell you honestly whether it is too fine to hold at pendant size before you pay. Larger signs and wall pieces are quoted per piece. I decline hate speech, offensive imagery or otherwise inappropriate content.
