# Mountain of Dreams — Hand-Burned Driftwood Pendants

One mountain in every piece. A different sky every time. Mike's best work.

## What it is

One common element in every piece — THE MOUNTAIN. Around it, the sky changes: a moon, twin moons, a star, lightning, a stream, a sun. Every piece different, all mountains. The natural driftwood crack becomes the side of the mountain and the place Mike cuts in the frame. Each disc is burned by hand, sealed with beeswax and put on a hemp cord. No laser, ever — every mark burned by hand by a human.

## What Mike was thinking

Monkey Mike calls this ‘the next biggest edition that I'm most proud of.’ In his words: ‘These took a while. They are my best work... This is the best example of my work.’ Mountain of Dreams is his flagship: time at the bench, following a crack instead of hiding it, giving each mountain its own sky.

## Why it matters

Pieces break, get lost, get misprocessed — the edition size is however many survive. Thirty pieces made it onto this shelf, each with its own registry number. Don't wear jewelry? Hang it from your mirror. It rides with you.

Every Mountain of Dreams piece starts the same way: a mountain, burned by hand into a disc of driftwood Mike cut himself. What changes is the sky. This one's sky holds a single star. The crack in this disc isn't damage — it's the mountainside. Mike burns the range around the crack the wood already had, so the break in the wood becomes the break in the ridge. No two pieces in this edition share a sky, a ridge, or a crack. This is No. 0001, the first of the edition. Driftwood disc, sealed in beeswax, on a hemp cord with a breakaway clasp. No. 0001 got a star. This one gets weather of a different kind: water. A single big peak fills the disc, the wood's own crack splitting its face — and from the peak, the stream lines fall. Every Mountain of Dreams piece is the same mountain under a different sky. This sky is empty, and that's the point of this one: just the mountain, the crack it was born with, and the water running off it. Burned by hand into driftwood, sealed in beeswax, strung on hemp. Most pieces in this edition pick one sky. This one took both: a bold star on one side, a black moon on the other, and the whole range underneath. Look at the main summit — that dark eye at the peak is the wood's own knot, right where the burn needed a top. Mike didn't put it there. The tree did. He just burned the mountain around it. The darker disc in the edition so far, and the quietest sky: one pale ring of a moon, hanging over twin peaks that sit low in the wood. A branch reaches down the left edge like a tree leaning over the range, and the crack in this one splits the main peak's face clean through — the mountainside the wood decided on before Mike ever picked up the burner.
